Rail to Loudoun Dulles Corridor Metrorail Project

The Rail to Loudoun Coalition supports completion of the 23-mile Silver line — Metrorail to all four stations serving Loudoun county: Route 28, Washington Dulles International Airport, Route 606, and Route 772.

Benefits of Rail to Loudoun

  • Rail to Loudoun will help achieve the economic development and transportation  priorities of the new Board of Supervisors.
  • Rail supports Loudoun’s growth as a destination, a place for businesses to locate.  Without it, Loudoun runs the risk of becoming a bedroom community for Fairfax.
  • Rail makes business locations in Loudoun accessible to a regional work force.
  • Rail provides much needed capacity for east-west trips both to and from the county
  • Rail reduces the growth of congestion.  It could get a lot worse without rail.
  • Washington Dulles International Airport is a major economic driver of the Commonwealth (generating 96,980 Virginia jobs, with an annual payroll of $4.0 billion and $10. billion in economic activity.  Dulles International needs rail to achieve its growth potential for passenger trips, employees, and cargo.  Dulles Airport is a key driver of the economy of Loudoun County and Northern Virginia. 
  • Rail provides an international gateway to Loudoun County, a one-seat ride to Dulles Airport, a two-seat ride to most places in the world.  It also puts Dulles Airport one or two stops away from Loudoun’s transit station areas, a major competitive advantage.
  • Rail serves Loudoun residents by opening up access to the region’s many cultural, educational, recreational amenities and by providing an alternative way to commute. 
  • For a $260 million ($310)  investment Loudoun becomes a part of a $15 billion regional rail transit system, a very good deal!
