Benefits of Rail to Loudoun
- Rail to Loudoun will help achieve the economic development and transportation priorities of the new Board of Supervisors.
- Rail supports Loudoun’s growth as a destination, a place for businesses to locate. Without it, Loudoun runs the risk of becoming a bedroom community for Fairfax.
- Rail makes business locations in Loudoun accessible to a regional work force.
- Rail provides much needed capacity for east-west trips both to and from the county
- Rail reduces the growth of congestion. It could get a lot worse without rail.
- Washington Dulles International Airport is a major economic driver of the Commonwealth (generating 96,980 Virginia jobs, with an annual payroll of $4.0 billion and $10. billion in economic activity. Dulles International needs rail to achieve its growth potential for passenger trips, employees, and cargo. Dulles Airport is a key driver of the economy of Loudoun County and Northern Virginia.
- Rail provides an international gateway to Loudoun County, a one-seat ride to Dulles Airport, a two-seat ride to most places in the world. It also puts Dulles Airport one or two stops away from Loudoun’s transit station areas, a major competitive advantage.
- Rail serves Loudoun residents by opening up access to the region’s many cultural, educational, recreational amenities and by providing an alternative way to commute.
- For a $260 million ($310) investment Loudoun becomes a part of a $15 billion regional rail transit system, a very good deal!
